Online Poker Database Management

Hand2Note (H2N) is one of the most advanced database management and Heads-Up Display (HUD) tools used by the online poker community. While traditional trackers have been around for over a decade, H2N has emerged as the hyper-efficient workhorse that the majority of high-stakes professional grinders and mass-data analysts use to extract maximum value. Technically, you can play online poker without an advanced tracker. However, in the modern 2026 landscape, playing without a database is like trying to navigate a dark room without a flashlight.

How Hand2Note Actually Works

Image

Since many online poker sites don't provide any form of historical data of your opponents' tendencies, H2N fills that void by acting as a lightning-fast data harvester. Essentially how it works is the software monitors the "Hand History" folders on your computer where the poker site saves text files of every hand played. H2N reads these files in real-time, converts the text into statistics at industry-leading speeds (up to 3,000 hands per second), and stores them in a highly compressed local database.

Under the model where you are using H2N during a live session, it would work something like this:

The Data Collection: You play a hand on a site like PokerStars or WPN. The site saves a text file of that hand to your hard drive.

The Processing: H2N "scrapes" that file the moment it’s saved and identifies not just the action, but the exact position, stack depth, and player type.

The Overlay (HUD): H2N then projects a dynamic transparent box- the Heads-Up Display- directly onto your poker table. Unlike older static HUDs, H2N can change the stats displayed based on the exact situation you are in.

The Edge: When a player open-raises from the Button and you are in the Big Blind, H2N instantly filters their stats to show exactly how they play in that specific positional battle, allowing you to make a highly informed, situational exploit.

Key Features & Functionality

Image

H2N isn't just a live overlay; it’s a massive post-game analysis suite built for processing enormous sample sizes. Historically, high-volume players have used it to conduct "population analysis"- identifying exactly how the entire player pool plays in specific spots to build highly exploitative strategies.

Dynamic & Positional HUDs: This is the primary in-game tool. Instead of showing a cluttered block of 100 numbers, the HUD dynamically shifts to display only the stats relevant to the current board texture, player position, and effective stack size.

Range Research: This feature allows you to analyze the tendencies of the entire population, rather than just individual players. If you want to know how "recreational players" play when they check-raise the turn, Range Research aggregates your entire database to give you the answer.

Automatic Reg vs. Fish Recognition: Instead of manually color-coding players, H2N automatically identifies and labels opponents as "regulars" or "recreational" based on their statistical profile, saving immense time for multi-tablers.

Action Profit & Decision Analysis: Built directly into the software, this analyzes the exact mathematical profitability of your decisions in specific spots, highlighting exactly which actions are making you money and which are costing you.

Pricing & Versions

Hand2Note uses a hybrid model. They offer a highly functional "Base" version for free, but the advanced features operate on an annual subscription model. This makes it an incredibly powerful, albeit premium, investment for the long-term player.

Base Version (Free): Covers basic tracking and a standard static HUD at no cost for all stakes.

Small Stakes License (~$60 - $100/year): Unlocks advanced features, dynamic HUDs, and Range Research for cash games up to .25/.50 No Limit and tournaments up to $22.

Pro / All Stakes License (~$160 - $300+/year depending on addons): Covers all stakes, unlimited data processing, and full, unrestricted access to the suite's most powerful analytical tools.

Supported Poker Sites & Networks

Image

Hand2Note is incredibly powerful, but the way it operates relies entirely on one crucial factor: the poker site actually providing downloadable hand histories. For operators, the decision to allow tracking software or ban it differs from site to site. While H2N wants to support every room on the internet, the reality is that its compatibility is tethered strictly to the Terms of Service of each individual poker network.

Here is how the current landscape of supported sites generally breaks down for H2N:

Natively Supported Networks:

  • PokerStars: The industry standard; fully supported. However, PokerStars' strict rules restrict H2N from using its dynamic/positional HUD features in-game (only static HUDs are allowed). H2N automatically complies with this to keep you safe.
  • Winning Poker Network (WPN) & iPoker: All sites on these networks are fully integrated with full feature support.
  • Winamax & 888poker: Seamlessly supported for both cash games and tournaments.

Strictly Unsupported Networks:

  • GGPoker / PartyPoker / WPT Global: They have completely banned all third-party tracking software. They offer their own built-in, rudimentary "SmartHUD," but H2N will not function on their client.
  • Unibet: No trackers or third-party HUDs allowed, period.
  • Sweepstakes Poker (Clubs Poker, etc.): Because these sites operate entirely within a web browser using the sweepstakes model, they do not output standard text hand histories to your hard drive. H2N natively does not support them without the use of highly specialized, often frowned-upon third-party card catchers.

The Use Case: Who is this for?

If you are a resident playing a $5 tournament once a month, you probably don't need the paid versions of H2N. The free Base version might suffice, but the learning curve for the advanced tools is incredibly steep, and the software is designed for processing millions of hands.

However, if you are playing high volume, multi-tabling, or operating at mid-to-high stakes, it becomes a necessity. H2N is diligent about staying "white-listed" on major sites, automatically disabling prohibited features (like the dynamic HUD on PokerStars) so using it won't get your account in trouble for "cheating."

The state of the game in 2026 is one of information. Hand2Note provides arguably the most advanced aggregation of that information available. Is it the easiest software on the market to master? No- the interface and depth of the data can be intimidating at first. But is it one of the most powerful tools for mass data analysis and building a long-term winning profile? Absolutely.

The decision whether to invest the time into learning H2N is a choice you have to make for yourself based on your goals, but for anyone looking to transition from a standard regular to an elite player, this is exactly where we recommend starting.

"The best out there"

Ive been using H2N for the last 500k+ hands and rate it highly. It was the best software and free at the time If I had to choose one today starting from the bottom I couldnt justify paying the extra for H2N until I was at 200NL+If you want to do your own pool analysis youll need to come across 50+ million hands somehow which will be another added expense. The most common exploit spots are already out there and more time/cost effective to consume somebody elses standard exploit lines than run all the reports yourself

"Fantastic"

H2N is fantastic. I have paid for a PT2, PT3 and PT4 license and thought itd never get better. H2N makes deep dives so much easier.

"Worth it for cash games"

I use H2N and can say it is 1 million percent worth it for cash players, the advanced range work you can do with Edge is truly incredible, I haven't messed around with it too much in MTTs but can 100% say its worth it for cash

"Kind of buggy"

the program is certainly buggy. I noticed an issue it had with 3 way pots--it would only count you as winning the main pot, not the side pot, even if you won both. So you have 100 BB, V1 has 100BB, and V2 has 20 BB. You get it all in and win everything. It shows you winning a 60BB pot, for a net gain of 40BB, rather than a 220BB pot with a net gain of 120BB like it should

"Works out the box"

I downloaded Hand2Note 4 couple of days ago and I cant be more happier. PT4 is such a trash comparing to it. Both the setup and experience of creating dashboard is horrible. Hand2Note just worked out of the box and it has multiple nice readily available reports.
